About Scholarships

There are four areas of scholarship sources available for COS students:
  • High School Scholarships (Check with your high school counselor)
  • COS Institutional Scholarships
  • Transfer Scholarships (Check with the university you plan to attend)
  • Outside Scholarships
High School Scholarships
If you are a high school student and would like more information regarding scholarships, please contact your school counselor in the counseling office. They will be able to give you the most current information regarding the policies at your school and the scholarships for which you may be eligible. If you receive a high school scholarship and would like to use it at COS, please bring your scholarship letter and/or certificate to the COS Scholarship Office. After verifying your enrollment, funds will be requested from the donor. Once funds for your scholarship are received and you meet all criteria, we can issue the funds to you.

COS Institutional Scholarships
The 2025-2026 Scholarship Application is open during the Fall 2024 semester. Click on the COS Scholarship Application tile for more information. See the Current Inside Scholarships page for a list of scholarships offered.

Transfer Scholarships
Just as COS administers institutional scholarships, most college/universities have similar programs available for students. Please contact the scholarship office at any institution that you may be interested in attending to get specific information regarding application procedures at that school. Each office will have its own application period and process. Plan early! Some schools require applications a year or more in advance for scholarships. It is always a good idea to get information as early as possible and be prepared instead of missing a deadline by a few days.

Outside Scholarships
An outside scholarship refers to a broad range of scholarships that are not affiliated with any institution. In fact, they are also referred to as non-institutional scholarships. They are set up by a donor (an individual, group, business, civic or religious organization, employer, club, etc.) and contain a set of criteria students must meet in order to receive the award. There is a list of outside scholarships available on the COS scholarship webpage as a resource to students. If you receive an outside scholarship and would like to use it at COS, please bring your scholarship letter and/or certificate to the COS Scholarship Office. After verifying your enrollment, funds will be requested from the donor. Once funds for your scholarship are received and you meet all criteria, we can issue the funds to you.

COS Scholarship Application

The 2025-2026 Scholarship Application will open during the Fall 2024 semester.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do incoming students graduating from high school apply to the COS President's Scholars Program?
A: Incoming students need to complete two steps to apply to all Current Inside Scholarships offered through the COS Foundation: Submit a new student scholarship application and submit a College of the Sequoias application for admission. Visit the COS Scholarship Application page for information on how to apply for scholarships. Visit the President's page for more information about the President's Scholars Program.

Q: Do I need to have a high GPA in order to be eligible to receive a scholarship?
A: No, students do not need to have a high GPA in order to receive a scholarship. Scholarships have different GPA requirements and some scholarships do not require a minimum GPA.

Q: Do I have to be a full-time student (12 or more units) in order to be eligible to receive a scholarship?
A: No, students do not have to be full-time to be eligible to receive a scholarship. Not all scholarships available require full-time enrollment. Please note that students enrolled in the COS Nursing Program or COS Physical Therapy Assistant Program are considered full-time at 9 units.

Q: How do I write an essay and what do I write about?
A: The essay portion of the application is designed to acquaint the scholarship committee with the students…their life, their challenges, their activities, goals, any achievements, etc. This is the opportunity for the students to tell about themselves and expand on answers in the application. It should be written in first person and tell the story of their life.

Q: How do I get letters of recommendation?
A: The application allows for three letters of recommendation to be included online. The student requests permission from the recommender and will add their name and email address to the application. An email will be sent immediately to them with instructions on how to fill out the form. The process is done entirely online and the student will not have access to it. The student will be able to monitor which recommendations have been completed, need a reminder, or need to be withdrawn. The application requires only one completed letter of recommendation to be a valid application, but completing more than one is to the student's benefit.

Q: Can I still submit my application if the person(s) I am using as a reference has not completed the recommendation form by the application deadline?
A: Yes, the recommender has additional time to complete the recommendation form after the application deadline. Make sure your application is submitted on time even if your letters of recommendations are not yet submitted. See the important scholarship dates list for the letter of recommendation due date.
