Syllabus-Statement
Content Editor
To help faculty promote
equity for our diverse student population and introduce
them to library resources (high quality information sources offered free to all COS students, faculty, and staff), we have developed sample statements that can be included in syllabi. We also encourage faculty to contact
their liaison to learn more about the resources available to support student success relevant to their course.
Library Services Sample 1:
This class requires students to find information sources for a speech, research paper, or project. Appropriate sources could include scholarly and peer-reviewed journal articles, books or magazines and newspapers. Librarians are available to help students select and locate appropriate sources. You can Ask a Librarian in person, by email, chat, phone, or Zoom for assistance.
Library Services Sample 2:
GET HELP @ YOUR LIBRARY! You can access your library account, the online catalog, and academic databases from your MyGiant account. For research assistance,
Ask a Librarian in person, by email, chat, phone, or Zoom.
Textbooks on Reserve Sample:
A textbook for this class is on reserve in the Library/LRC. Textbooks can be checked out for 2 hours. Library staff will ask for a picture ID at checkout. Additionally, the Library can scan up to two chapters of our textbook and provide them to you via email. You can request chapters to be scanned using the following link: https://bit.ly/3UExKlW.
Access to Technology Devices Sample:
This class is offered online and requires access to reliable internet and a computer. The Library/LRC has computers available for student use during the
open hours and a program that is free to students in need of reliable internet and/or a laptop. To request a laptop fill out the Laptop request form on the Laptop Checkout website. If you have questions about this program call 730-3825 or email
library@cos.edu.
Note: These are only recommendations and no faculty member is required to use them.
However, it is a resource we hope you will share with your students.
