 Library (LIBR) classes

COS students can meet Information competency requirement for graduation in two ways:

  1. Complete one of the four library courses (LIBR 101, 102, 103 or 050) - most beneficial to students if taken early (during their first semester/year)
    or

  2. Pass the Information Competency Exam

 ​LIBR 101​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ (one unit)

​​​​​College Research Strategies
​teaches students how to find, use, and evaluate information for research needs both inside and outside of the classroom​​. Students will explore strategies for effective research including using library resources, searching the open web, and avoiding plagiarism.​​​​

Online, hybrid, and/or in-person five-week class sessions are offered every semester.

*CRN (Course Registration Number) is a five digit number need for registration (for example, 15797) and can be found in the beginning of each class listed on the schedule.

 LIBR 102 (one unit)

Internet Information Resources
introduces students to research tools available in the Open and Deep Web for academic and personal use.

Online, hybrid, and/or in-person five-week class sessions are offered every semester.

 LIBR 103 (one unit)

Evaluating Information Sources​​
teaches the basics of evaluating information for credibility, using Library resources, and avoiding plagiarism. ​

 ​LIBR 050 (three units)

Research Skills for Lifelong Learning
​helps students develop essential information literacy skills necessary for lifelong learning. Students will explore digital divide, intellectual freedom, health effects of internet use, information overload​, and online privacy topics.​

Online semester long​ class is offered in Spring and Fall semesters.
