Information competency (LIBR 490 AB) is one of the requirements for graduation at ​COS. Completing one of the four library courses in the first couple of semesters is recommended. However, if students cannot fit​ a library class in their schedule, they can​ choose to take the information competency exam.

How can you prepare for this exam?

Students can prepare for the information competency exam by using the COS Library Information Competency Tutorial.

How can you take this exam?

Information competency (LIBR 490 AB) is an online exam offered in Canvas that must be completed in three hours.
Interested students need to enroll using Banner Web​ anytime during a semester.

When can you take this exam?

Students can take the information competency exam (LIBR 490 AB) at any time during a semester (Spring, Summer or Fall).

What if you fail the exam?

Information competency (LIBR 490 AB) can be attempted once per semester. The minimum passing score is 75%. ​​If students fail the exam after their second attempt, they should enroll in and complete one of the four library courses.​
