What is AB 928?
Simplified General Education (GE) Path to Transfer
Starting in Fall 2025, COS will implement a unified lower division general education pathway for
new first-time students, known as the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC). This pathway will be recognized by both the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) systems. This means clearer and simplified pathways without the hassle of unnecessary coursework duplication.
Direct Path to Your Degree with Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT)
Starting August 1, 2024, new first-time students will be automatically placed on an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) pathway if one is available for their major at COS. This streamlines your educational journey and ensures you don't take more courses than necessary. While we recognize that not every major exists within an ADT, some CSU campuses do not accept the ADTs, and the student's educational goal is better served by not following the ADT pathway; students can opt out of the Auto ADT placement by seeing a
Counselor.
What is AB 1111?
Common Course Numbering (CCN)
The CCN system will establish a structure to maximize credit mobility for all students, strengthening equitable transfer and student success rates. CCN will support students in building cohesive academic plans, understanding how required courses transfer and apply to completion, and making informed course selections that support degree completion.
What AB 928 & AB 1111 Mean for You
- students who start COS in the Fall of 2024 as new first-time students and select a transfer pathway with a degree will be placed in an ADT pathway -
unless you meet the opt-out exceptions
- students who start COS in the Fall of 2025 as new students or sat out and lost their catalog rights will follow Cal-GETC if they want to transfer and earn their associate degree for transfer (ADT)
- Six COS courses will change in the Fall of 2025 (ENGL 001, ENGL 002, COMM 001, MATH 021, POLS 005, and PSY 001). Courses across the California Community Colleges with the same CCN designations will be equivalent and students do not need to retake them.
