The Learning Resource Cent​er (LRC) strives to provide a safe environment that is suitable for individual and group study, reading, and research activity at all locations. Click here to v​iew the PDF version. The following behaviors are deemed to interfere with the provision of this environment. LRC users who engage in any of these behaviors may be subject to removal from the premises and may be reported to the Dean or the COS District Police Department: 

  • ​Engaging in activities that are disruptive to other students' use of the LRC.
  • Using cell phones or other communication devices in a manner that disturbs others. Cell phones should be on silent mode while inside any LRC building. ​See Administrative Procedure 5510​
  • Harassing or threatening any student or staff member in the LRC.
  • Consuming prepared meals and beverages without lids. Note: Pre-packaged food and drinks with lids are permitted. See Learning Resource Center Food & Beverage Policy
  • ​Soliciting, selling, and proselytizing in the LRC buildings.
  • Leaving children unsupervised in the LRC.
  • Bringing animals into the LRC building. Note: Service animals and service animals in training are permitted. See Administrative Procedure 3440
  • Entering areas of the LRC restricted to staff without permission.

LRC Materials and Equipment

All titles (print, electronic, and audiovisual) have been purchased by the Library in support of the programs offered by COS and are available to Library users. The Library supports the American Library Association’s (ALA) principles, including the Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read, and Freedom to View. During peak hours, LRC computers should be used for college-related coursework and activities only. Students using the computers for non-academic purposes may be asked to log off.

LRC computers will not be used to view websites that contain pornography, real or animated. Users in violation of this rule may be asked to leave the LRC and/or have their login accounts suspended.

The installation of software on LRC computers is prohibited. Students in violation of this rule may be asked to leave the LRC and/or have their login accounts suspended.

Moving desks can disconnect or break electrical connections built into the furniture. Any chair moved will need to be returned to its original position.

Users who damage LRC materials (e.g. cutting, marking, tearing, breaking, etc.) will be held responsible for its repair and, if necessary, replacement. See Learning Resource Center Damaged Policy​

LRC users are subject to immediate removal for committing or attempting to commit a serious/illegal offense, including assault, battery, theft, gambling, vandalism, sexual offenses, offensive touching, stalking or threatening behavior, and use of alcohol or controlled substances.
