A New Era in Transfer Opportunities at COS - AB 928

 Content Editor

As part of our commitment to your academic success and streamlined educational journey, we at the College of the Sequoias are excited to share how the new AB 928 legislation, the Student Transfer Achievement Reform Act, will significantly simplify the process of transferring to four-year universities for students. These new measures will decrease your time and financial burdens by reducing the complexities and barriers in the transfer process. This is part of our commitment to enhancing the accessibility, affordability, and quality of higher education, making it easier for you to achieve your academic goals.

What is AB 928?

Simplified General Education (GE) Path to Transfer

Starting in Fall 2025, COS will implement a unified lower division general education pathway for new first-time students, known as the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC). This pathway will be recognized by both the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) systems. This means clearer and simplified pathways without the hassle of unnecessary coursework duplication.

Direct Path to Your Degree with Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT)

Starting August 1, 2024, new first-time students will be automatically placed on an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) pathway if one is available for their major at COS. This streamlines your educational journey and ensures you don't take more courses than necessary. While we recognize that not every major exists within an ADT, some CSU campuses do not accept the ADTs, and the student's educational goal is better served by not following the ADT pathway; students can opt out of the Auto ADT placement by seeing a Counselor
