Financial Aid Application Process

Here are the steps to apply for federal and state financial aid.  Years and dates below apply to the 2022-2023​ school year.

​​​​​ Step 1

Collect financial related documents for the student and his/her parents if applicable, along with personal information.

  • 2020 Tax Returns
  • 2020 W-2s
  • Bank Account Statements
  • Date of Birth
  • Social Security Number or ITIN
  • Marital Status and Date of

Step 2

Apply by submitting the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.gov.   For Dream Act application, please apply at https://dream.csac.ca.gov/.

The FAFSA/Dream Act applications should be completed as soon as possible on or after October 1, 2021.  The California priority deadline for submission of the FAFSA and Dream Act is March 2, 2022, in order to be considered for a Cal Grant and other state aid.  This applies to California Residents only and it is important for Dream Act students to submit their application by this deadline.  You will not be considered for a Cal Grant if an application is received after the deadline.

Step 3

Student Aid Report (SAR) is sent to the student electronically if an email was provided or by mail if an email address was not included in​ FAFSA.
  • Review SAR carefully to ensure that all of the information on the report is accurate.
  • If corrections or updates need to be made, please log in to the FAFSA website or send the updated SAR via U.S. Mail to the address listed on the SAR.

Step 4

All communication from the College of the Sequoias' Financial Aid office will be sent to the student's COS Giant Email Account.  The email message will include information on the student's eligibility for federal and state financial aid and further instruction on how to access awards and payment dates.

Step 5

Select a Refund Preference with BankMobile Disbursements, a technology solution, powered by BMTX, Inc.  Simply follow these steps to make your refund preference selection:​

  1. VISIT COS.EDU
  2. LOG IN TO MYGIANT IN THE TOP RIGHT CORNER
    >CLICK THE BANKMOBILE ICON
    >CLICK MY REFUNDS
  3. SELECT HOW YOU WANT YOUR MONEY DELIVERED​

The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) provides a variety of state aid programs such as Cal Grants, Chafee Grant, Dream Act, and the Middle-Class Scholarship.   Please visit their website at www.csac.ca.gov for more information.

WebGrants 4 Students (WGS)

This is your portal for Cal Grant, Chafee, and other state grants.  The California Student Aid Commission contacts students through email so it is critical that you keep this information current on your WGS account.  To create an account/sign-in, please go to https://mygrantinfo.csac.ca.gov.​
