Background & Purpose

• The equivalency committee is a subcommittee of Academic Senate and is comprised of full-time faculty members. 
• Overall, equivalency is pursued when applicants do not directly meet minimum qualifications for employment but can provide evidence of having qualifications equivalent to those required and listed by the Chancellor's Office in Title 5. 
• Demonstrating equivalency is a rigorous process, and the Equivalency Committee is charged with reviewing every equivalency application for faculty positions across academic divisions at COS.  
• The Equivalency Committee only reviews equivalency applications from prospective faculty applicants (not classified or managerial positions).  
• In addition to reviewing equivalency applications, the committee assists in drafting and implementing policies and procedures dealing with the equivalency process for faculty applicants. ​
  

2026-2027 Initiatives:

• Review and update the informational slideshows on applying for equivalency at Sequoias Community College District
• Review and update the fillable forms and consolidate forms as necessary.
• Continue to perform outreach to IC, HR, VP of Academic Services, deans, and division/hiring chairs as to procedures and documents, the committee's needs (timelines, etc.), and other information
• Investigate work experience as an option for Master's Equivalency
• Perform routine tasks (posting agendas, minutes, hold meetings, all required paperwork) as required, including end-of-year assessment for 2026-27
