Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What will the GI Bill Cover?

The Post 9/11 GI Bill will cover the tuition costs for the program but it will not cover the costs of uniforms, gear, ammunition etc. Post 9/11 will also provide a book stipend up to $1000 for the year as well as a month housing stipend based on your enrollment.  Post 9/11 GI Bill does not cover out of state tuition. If you are classified as an out of state student you will need to work with admissions to get reclassified to an in-state student. Post 9/11 GI Bill will not cover the costs for the Police Academy Orientation. The orientation class is not listed as a certificate requirement therefore it is not considered payable.

All other chapters of the GI Bill will only pay a monthly stiped for attendance. Rates vary for each Chapter of the GI Bill. Rates can be found at www.va.gov

  2. Is the police academy a Full-Time Program?

The police academy is generally considered full time, but VA calculates payments based on the number of days a course meets. Since the Police Academy is set up as modules, each module is looked at as a different term and breaks between modules can affect the amount of your pay. *

*If you are in the extended academy you may not be full time depending on the term dates.
