Sequoias Community College District Superintendent/President – Finalists Announced

 
The purpose of this announcement is to introduce the four finalists in the selection process for the new Superintendent/President at the Sequoias Community College District and to invite you to meet the finalists in an Open Forum on Friday, March 2, 2018.
 
The finalists are:
·         Dr. Santanu Bandyopadhyay, Executive Vice-President of Educational Programs and Student Services at Cypress College;
·         Mr. Brent Calvin, Vice-President of Student Services at Sequoias Community College District;
·         Ms. Krista Johns, Vice-Chancellor of Educational Services and Student Success at Chabot-Las Positas Community College District; and
·         Dr. Jill Stearns, President, Modesto Junior College.
 
The forums are open to COS faculty, staff, students and the public and are scheduled for Friday, March 2, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:15 p.m. at the Theatre on the COS Visalia Campus.  Additionally, the forums will be live-streamed.

At each open forum, finalists will present a brief opening statement and answer four questions previously submitted by College of the Sequoias students, faculty, staff, and/or community members. Candidates will also have an opportunity to provide closing remarks. 
 
Spectators of the forums will have the ability to provide feedback on the candidates.  The Sequoias Community College District Board of Trustees will review these comments during their final deliberations.
 
The Board of Trustees will interview the finalists on March 2, 2018. Plans are to announce the new Superintendent/President at the March 12, 2018 Board of Trustees meeting with a start date of July 1, 2018.
 
Below is a brief biography of each candidate:
 
Santanu Bandyopadhyay
Dr. Santanu Bandyopadhyay (pronounced Ban-dough-paw-die) is currently the Executive Vice-President of Educational Programs and Student Services at Cypress College. He has served in this capacity since July 2013. Prior to his current position, Dr. Bandyopadhyay served as a Director of Institutional Research and Planning at two different community colleges (Cypress College and Zane State College, Ohio).  Dr. Bandyopadhyay earned his undergraduate degree in Physics from India; his MBA in Management from Ohio University; and, his Ph.D. in Higher Education at Ohio University. 
 
 
Brent Calvin
Mr. Brent Calvin is currently the Vice-President of Student Services at the College of the Sequoias.  He has served in this position since 2013.  Prior to his current position, Mr. Calvin served at the College of the Sequoias as an Athletic Director, Academic Dean, Vice-President of Administrative Services, and Interim Superintendent/President.  Mr. Calvin earned his associates degree from the College of the Sequoias; his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from California State University, Fullerton; and two master’s degrees:  an MBA in Business Administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills and a Master of Education from Northcentral University in Arizona.
 
 
Krista Johns
Ms. Krista Johns is currently the Vice-Chancellor of Educational Services at Chabot-Las Positas Community College District.  She has served in this position since 2016.  Prior to her current position, Ms. Johns served as a Vice-President of Instruction at Berkeley City College and as an Interim President at Berkeley City College. Ms. Johns earned her bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and a juris doctor degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago-Kent College of Law.
 
 
Jill Stearns
Dr. Jill Stearns is currently the President of Modesto Junior College.  She has served in this position since 2012.  Prior to her current position, Dr. Stearns was the Vice-President of Educational Services at West Hills College.  Dr. Stearns earned her undergraduate degree in Business Administration from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo; her M.S. in Instructional Technology from National University; and her Ph.D. in Education, Community College Leadership from Walden University.
