Online Discussion Rubric

In this class, we will use online discussions to discuss and practice writing concepts, to practice supporting a written view point, and to share responses with others.  Expect to post 3-5 times in each unit and to write 150-200 words minimum.  Having your Reading and Reflection notes nearby also may be helpful.  Do check to see if you are expected to post in more than one topic for the week.  Discussion is a significant activity and counts toward 75 percent of your total grade in this course.

Less than 3 postings are made in the discussion board area.

3-5 entries are posted.

HOWEVER
Each entry is posted but is brief (less than two sentences).

OR

(a) Each entry has little in the way of thoughtful, substantive ideas concerning the assignment or course content related to it.

OR

(b) No entries respond to fellow student(S) or response to a fellow student just a personal remark, not a substnative reply (e.g. "Good.  I really liked your coment.").

3-5 entries, 150-200 words total are posted.

PLUS (a or b)

(a) Each contains thoughtful, substantive ideas concerning assignment or course content related to it.

OR

(b) The entries are responsive to at least two other classmates, with detailed remarks about their writing or discussion response.

3-5 entries, 10-200 words total are posted.

(a) Each entry contains toughtful, substantive ideas concerning assignment or content related to it.

OR

(b) The entries are responsive to at least two other classmates, with detailed remarks about their writing or discussion response.

(d) Your respons to class member(s) clearly indicates your postion in rleation to what fellow student(s) said or wrote (e.g., agreeing, disagreeing, adding to, modifying, extending or questionsing.)
