TEAS EXAM - Test of Essential Academic Skills:  (information below)

PLEASE NOTE: Every applicant for the COS Registered Nursing Program must, as a part of their application, provide verification that they have successfully passed a test that measures abilities in critical academic areas.  At COS, we are using the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) exam which was created by Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI).  The California Community College Chancellor's office has approved the use of TEAS and has set a statewide minimum pass score of 67% for this test.  Further information is available at Assessment Technologies InstituteFor further information on TEAS testing go to:  Registering for the TEAS at COS.       

REGISTERED NURSE TRANSFER STUDENTS:  (procedures below)

The student who has attended a nursing program at another college may apply for transfer to theCOS Registered Nursing Program. To be accepted, the transfer student must meet all the admission requirements of the COS Registered Nursing Program.

Transfer Requirements include: 1) A letter of good standing from the Director of the program from which the student is transferring; 2) a completed COS RN Application, 3) Official sealed transcripts from all institutions attended, 4) Syllabi from all nursing courses to be considered for advanced placement and 5) TEAS Individual Performance Profile showing a passing score of 67% or higher.

When the transfer requirements are completed, the transferring student must request the following appointments: (** both of these following appointments may be made on the same day with advanced  notice by calling (559) 730-3728 or 730-3732.

1) Make an appointment with the Evaluation Specialist-Student Services/Counselor-Nursing & Allied Health by e-mailing janetg@cos.edu to evaluate prerequisite courses. The counselor will need to review all of the student's course transcripts.  The student must have copies in hand when meeting with the counselor.

 

2) Next meet with the Director of Nursing to determine semester placement and seat availability.  Schedule an appointment by calling (559) 730-3728 or 730-3732.  Note: ** Before an appointment can be made the following documents must be in-hand:

a)  A letter of good standing from the Director of the program from which the student is transferring.

b)  Official sealed transcripts from all institutions attended.

c)  Completed COS nursing application (see left hand menu)

d)  Syllabi from all nursing courses to be considered for advanced placement in the COS RN program.

e)  TEAS Individual Performance Profile.

 

RN Information Meetings:

Semester RN Information Meetings will be held in the COS Hospital Rock Building, Room 134 

        from 4:00 pm until 5:00 pm.
