Definition of Articulation:

"a process which identifies classes available at secondary institutions within the COS District which are equivalent in content, rigor, and instructional methodology with classes available at the college. Students enrolled in those classes, subject to those conditions of a class-to-class articulation agreement, will receive college credit for the secondary class upon enrollment and completion of one semester at COS."

Adopted by the College of the Sequoias Tech Prep Consortium Articulation Task Force, College of the Sequoias, Visalia, California.

Articulation (2+2) Process:

College of the Sequoias articulates 29 different classes at 29 school sites in Kings and Tulare counties. In 2001-2002, 596 articulation, 146 Spanish, and 60 bridging certificates were issued to students at these schools. In 1997 COS initiated a new computerized articulation process. This has enabled qualified students to receive credit for those classes when they have completed one semester (with "C" or better average) at COS. In 2001-02, 182 students received credit for classes taken in high school.

There are three types of articulation agreements:

Regular Articulation - Students complete the articulated class with a "B" grade or better. Teachers send a list to the college in April with names to be entered on the COS Articulation database. When the student successfully completes one semester at COS, he will receive credit for the class on his transcript.

Bridging Articulation - The student must complete the required classes of the certificate before he is able to get credit for the Bridging Class. Bridging Articulation classes are Agriculture Management 271, Agriculture Technology 271, Animal Science 271, Ornamental Horticulture 271, and Plant Science 271. The articulated class qualifies for elective (support) units required for the certificate. These classes are listed in the COS catalog but are not taught at COS.

Agreements are valid for 2 years after completion of the class.
