Description
Research Strategies is a course designed to familiarize you with
the strategies needed to do basic research. This could be research for a paper, speech,
presentation or your personal information needs. You will learn not only how to select and
evaluate information resources, but also techniques for organizing and recording
information.

Course Objectives
By the end of this course the students will be able to:
1. Articulate how information is organized and
packaged.
2. Discern which source(s) best fit their information
needs.
3. Learn and use a variety of basic search strategies
as they apply to print and electronic resources
4. Discuss the slant/bias of information sources and be
able to recognize how a source may be biased.
5. Narrow a broad research topic to a specific and
reasonable research question.
Course Requirements
The exact syllabus changes depending on the format of the class.
The class is offered in a 9 week format, meeting twice a week for 50
minutes and in weekend format meeting two Friday evenings and two
Saturdays from 9am to 2:40pm.
Which ever format you choose the topics
covered will be the same and the number of assignments is frequently the
same.
There will be a midterm and a final or a final project.
Please note:
Cheating is a violation of the Code of Student Conduct and will NOT be tolerated. Cheating on an exam or assignment will result in receiving a zero for the entire exam or assignment and can lead to expulsion from the class or College of the Sequoias.
The student is responsible for dropping the class if necessary. If the student misses a class, the student must contact the Instructor to make up the work.
