FEES

Fall and Spring Semesters

During the regular school year, students share in the costs of Student Health Center operations by paying a mandatory health fee at the time of registration (currently, $15 per semester).

Summer Session and Summer Semester

Students enrolled for summer semester or summer sessions pay a mandatory fee at the time of registration. The fee is currently $11 per semester.

Generally, there are no additional charges for basic health services provided within the Student Health Center. However, modest charges are applied for certain elective services and for some special examinations or immunizations not required for all enrolled students. COS Student Health Center staff will discuss with you the prevailing charges for any proposed services and review your options for electing to receive or not such care. A full list of fees and charges is also available at the appointment desk.

Counseling services, when available, are provided without charge throughout the year.

Insurance

We strongly recommend that all students have health insurance to cover the costs of care which is beyond the scope of COS. Students may be eligible for health plans designed for COS students and their families. These plans provide coverage for accidents and illness on and off campus. More Information About Fees

The health fee is REQUIRED of all regularly enrolled students regardless of the number of units enrolled or class level.

While most student health needs can be met in the Health Center, on occasion a student may require referral for more sophisticated evaluation by a specialist, be hospitalized, or be referred for further laboratory or radiological testing beyond the capabilities of the Health Center. In such circumstances, the student must bear the full cost of such services.

No student is required to accept a referral. Furthermore, the student has the right to select the specialist or health facility for referral. If the student does not want a referral, our Health Center staff will attempt to address the student's needs. Nevertheless, the student-patient must accept full responsibility for any outcome that results from proceeding against medical advice. The Health Center staff has no resources to underwrite such costs.

All nursing assessment of illness and/or injury and psychological counseling needed during times when the Health Center is closed are the responsibility of the student. Medical emergencies may cause extreme hardship for students and their parents unless there is adequate insurance protection. For that reason, the Health Center recommends supplemental health insurance.

All costs for nursing assessment of illness and/or injury, referral to medical providers and community resources or testing within the Health Center which may accrue are payable at the time the services are rendered. Normally, charges not paid are referred to the Cashier's Office where a hold is placed on the student's records. Once such an action has been placed, registration and release of transcripts or other matters relating to the academic record of the student will not be possible until the monies owed are paid.

The Health Center does not process insurance billings or provide itemized billings.
