Coach David Bronzan
     

While a student at COS, Bronzan set the school record in the mile run. At Cal Poly he was a member of the track team that twice won the National Championship. He was a U.S. Olympic Trials finalist in the marathon. Coach Bronzan has been named NorCal Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2001, California Community College Coach of the Year by the California Track Coaches Association in 1988, the California Community College Coaches Association in 1988, 1999, and 2001, and California Community College
Coaches Association Women's Track Coach of the Year in 2000.

While coaching Men's Cross Country at COS the last nineteen years, the team has  placed first or second in conference fifteen times, has won the CVC conference championships seven of the last eight years, the Bay Valley Conference title in 2001, and placed in the top ten in the Nor-Cal Championships seventeen times (1st place in 1999, 2000, and 2001, 2nd four times, and twelve times in the top 5 teams). In addition, the men's team has had five individual Nor-Cal Champions in the last ten years.  The 1998 Men's Cross Country team placed fifth in the State Championships, the 2000 team placed fourth, and the 2001 team placed third in the State Meet.  COS was the number one NorCal team in the State Meet for five consecutive years.

Coach Bronzan has been coaching the Women's team for the past eight years and they have placed fifth in the NorCal Championships three times and fourth in 2000. 

Bronzan has coached the distance runners, both men and women, during the past nineteen track seasons and has coached many state finalists and 7 individual Nor-Cal Champions. In the past seven State Championships, COS men distance runners have had twenty-one finalists in the distance events, including a State Champion in the 5000 meters in 2002 and eight finishers in the top four places.  Twelve women distance runners have placed in the State
Championships in the 800, 1500, 5000, and 10,000 m. races.

Bronzan says, "I am very proud of what our local distance runners have accomplished in the last nineteen years in cross country and track.  COS is well-respected as one of the strongest distance running programs in Northern California and the State."

Coach Mario Macias
 
Mario Macias, a  graduate of Delano High School, is in his first season of coaching at COS.  While competing 2 seasons for the College of Sequoias in cross country, Mario placed first and fifth in the State Championships and was the NorCal Champion both years.  During his first season of track and field competition for the Giants Mario captured 2 NorCal titles (5,000 m. and 1500 m.) and won the 5,000 m., and took third in the 10,000 m.  at the State Championships.  The following year he claimed 2 more NorCal titles (5,000 and 10,000) and placed second in the 1500 m. and took third in the 5,000 m.  at the State Meet.  He also established a new school record in the 1500 m. (3:51)  and ran a 1:53 800 m. on the record-setting 4X800 relay that ran 7:41.  For his outstanding performances and leadership, Mario was twice selected as All-Sports Giant of the Year for the College of Sequoias. 

After COS Mario competed for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he placed third in the conference in cross country and was a member of their 13th place team at the NCAA Division I Nationals.  During track he had a season-best of 29:22 in the 10,000 m. and a 3:49 1500 m.

"Mario is not only an excellent example of what it takes to be a quality distance runner, but he is doing an outstanding  job of motivating our young team." says Coach Bronzan.
