General Rules for Computer Use
(This information is also printed on the Computer Use Permit)

  1. All students currently enrolled in any Business Division courses  may use the Business Division Computer Lab (712A) or the Regular Business Division Computer Classrooms (714, 717, 718, 719).
  2. Computers in the Division Computer Lab (712A) may be reserved for up to two hours per day by signing up on the sign-up sheet in the lab. Unreserved computers are on a first-come, first-served basis.
  3. All students eligible to use Business Division computers will be issued a permit at the beginning of the semester. That permit must be displayed when working on any computer outside of your regularly scheduled class time. You may NOT loan your permit to another student; if you do, your permit will be permanently revoked.
  4. No food or drink is allowed in any computer classroom or in the computer lab. No exceptions.
  5. Be considerate of other students working in the room. Clean up your area before you leave and no loud talking or other disruptive behavior allowed.
  6. Business Division computers cannot be used to run your own personal software or to access inappropriate Web sites.

Who may use the Business Division computers?
Business Division computers are for use by students who are currently enrolled in a Business Division course which requires computer use. These students have paid a materials fee for their course.

No! The software located on Business Division computers is protected by U.S. copyright laws and may not be copied for personal use.

When is the computer lab available?
The computer lab located in 712A is open from approximately 8 am until 8 pm, Monday through Thursday, and from approximately 8 am until 4 pm on Fridays. Reservations may be made by signing up on the sign-up sheet located in the lab. The lab is also open on some Saturdays -- see the Open Lab Schedule

How do I know when I can work in a computer classroom?
You are allowed to work in the computer classrooms whenever classes are not in session -- see the Open Lab Schedule  or the schedules posted in the classrooms and on the bulletin board outside the lab (712A). Most regular classrooms are available on Fridays and most Saturdays.

How can I get help?
A student lab aide is available in the computer lab (Room 712A) See the Lab Aide schedule.. Lab aide assistance is also available on designated Saturdays from 11 am till 3 pm. See the Open Lab Schedule. 

You can get additional help in the tutorial center.

Can I use my personal software on Business Division computers?
NO
. You may only use the software installed on the computers by the Business Division.

Computer Security Policy

Business Division computers used by any person for unauthorized or improper use will meet with one or more of the following penalties.

  • Revocation of login ID

  • Reprimand: revocation of your Computer Use Permit and a letter of reprimand placed in your file

  • Fine: assumption of financial responsibility for any repairs resulting from such use

  • Removal: from class & computer access

  • Expulsion: expulsion from COS

Unauthorized or improper use include(s):

  • installing any software to local or network drives

  • running any software...from a floppy, zip or CD unless specifically instructed to do so by an instructor

  • attaching any hardware to any computer

  • making any changes to an existing computer setup unless specifically instructed to do so by an instructor

Computer users agree to abide by the rules stated above concerning computer use in the Business Division at College of the Sequoias and understand the consequences of non-compliance.

Warning: A grievance may be filed against you and COS if you view Internet materials that are deemed "offensive" by another person or group of people who also can see that material. Choose your research resources carefully!
