Career/Transfer Program Student Learning Outcomes

The Career/Transfer program has two Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs).
  They are:
  • SLO 1 -Students will have the knowledge and be able to choose and apply to a four year college or university or other institution.
  • SLO 2 -Students will list three components necessary to meaningful selection of occupational and educational goal.

 Assessment

To evaluate the two Career/Transfer SLOs center staff administered surveys during different transfer and career related events. The main survey addressed the students’ general impression and satisfaction of the Career/Transfer center.  The other was a pre and posttest related to career or transfer related workshops hosted by the center.

 Assessment Results

Below are Survey questions and data related to SLO 1 and SLO 2 and a comparison of 2010/11 and 2011/12 data.

Another method of evaluation the Career/Transfer used to evaluate the effectiveness of its services in relation to SLOs was the introduction of “Transfer/Career Quizzes” before and after different classroom and Career/Transfer activities. Students were given a half page quiz relating to the presentation.

 Findings and Decisions

Findings
We found after a student attended a workshop or classroom presentation they became more confident in the career/transfer process.  We also found students shared the information they learned in the workshops with fellow students.  This intern brought in new students that had never sought our services before.

Decisions
In response to student satisfaction rates the center Coordinator has decided to host additional workshops this upcoming academic year.  Our career workshops have increased from 20 (last year) to 31 (this year) and also increased the number of transfer application workshops this year by 40%.
