Financial Aid Application Process

Here are the steps to apply for federal and state financial aid:


 Step 1


Collect financial related documents for the student and his/her parents if applicable, along with personal information:

  • 2015 Tax Returns
  • 2015 W-2s
  • Bank Account Statements 
  • Date of Birth
  • Social Security Number
  • Marital Status and Date of

 Step 2

Apply by submitting the FAFSA online at  For the Dream Act, please apply at
The FAFSA/Dream Act should be completed as soon as possible after October 1, 2016. The California priority deadline for submission of the FAFSA and Dream Act is March 2, 2017 in order to be considered for a Cal Grant. This applies to California Residents Only.

 Step 3

Student Aid Report (SAR) is sent to student electronically if email was provided or by mail if email address was not included on FAFSA.
Review SAR carefully to ensure that all of the information on the report is accurate.
If corrections or updates need to be made, please login into the FAFSA website or send the updated SAR via U.S. mail to the address listed on the SAR.

 Step 4


All communication from the College of the Sequoias’ Financial Aid Office will be sent to the student via COS email.

Email message will include information on the student’s eligibility for federal and state financial aid, payment dates, and instructions on how to access award amounts.


 Step 5


Refund Selection Kit is mailed to student who appears to be financial aid eligible.  

Once the student receives the kit, please follow the instructions to select a refund preference.

Students may either choose to receive their financial aid via the COS Debit Card or may opt for other refund preferences. For more information, please visit the COS Debit Card website at
