Ray Alvarado

Women's Basketball Head Coach

Coach Ray Alvarado enters his fifth season at the helm of the Giants and has taken the program to heights that have not been experienced since legendary COS coach Tom Gilcrest was at the helm. Last season marked the highest win total for the COS women’s basketball team since the 1994-1995 season with 23. Their 10 conference wins is also the highest since the 1994-1995 season as well. Coach Alvarado and COS placed two players on the first team All-CVC team as well as one player on the second team to cap off a year that ended with earning a spot and hosting a game in the regional playoffs. This years team is poised to make another strong run and build on last year's success.

Coach Alvarado came to COS with a strong and diverse background in the basketball coaching field. Immediately prior to coming to COS, coach Alvarado was the head girl’s coach at Bullard High School in Fresno. During his time at Bullard, Ray lead the Lady Knights to some of best seasons in recent history including a 27 win season and league championship in 2007.

Prior to begin the girls coach at Bullard High, Coach Alvarado was the head women’s basketball coach at rival Fresno City College from 2005-2007 where he lead the Rams to back to back twenty plus win seasons as the head coach. Coach Alvarado also spent the prior three seasons at Fresno City College as an assistant coach.

Coach Alvarado was also a highly successful boys basketball coach at Sanger High School from 2003-2005 where he led the Apaches to successful seasons. Coach Alvarado also served as the head boy’s and girls golf coach.

Coach Alvarado, known for being a tireless recruiting and X and O coach, is also highly active in professional development and attends many coaching clinics and college and professional team practices in the off season.
