Message from President Carrizosa

February 19, 2013

Dear Students and Community Members:
On February 13, 2013, College of the Sequoias received a letter from the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC).  We regret to inform you COS did not fare well in our last accreditation process.  While the College received three commendations, it also received seven recommendations in which the Commission found that COS does not meet the accreditation standards.
Consequently the accrediting Commission has placed College of the Sequoias on the highest level of sanction by issuing an order to "Show Cause." The Board, Administration, Faculty, and Staff take the sanctions very seriously.  We know that our students, our communities, and all of us are counting on us to return COS to full accreditation status.
During this process, the most important news is:
• COS remains accredited during this process.
• Classes taken at COS will continue to transfer.
• Students can still earn degrees and certificates.
Financial aid remains safe.
The COS Accreditation Task Force is comprised of faculty, staff and student representatives and is immediately addressing all of the ACCJC recommendations. In addition, the Accreditation Community Advisory Committee will engage community members in the process and keep our community regularly informed of our progress.
