The COS Math, Chemistry, & Physics Jam sessions offer the opportunity for College of the Sequoias students to improve their placement test results in mathematics and/or prepare for a math, chemistry and/or physics course that they will be taking. There are three Jam opportunities each year, all held during the intersession period that falls between semesters. Summer sessions are held in June and August. A winter session is held in January. Math Jam sessions will focus on students preparing for or entering pre-calculus or calculus. The Chemistry Jam sessions will focus on preparing students for taking transferable chemistry, "Intro to General" or "General Chemistry". Physic Jam sessions will prepare students who will be taking "Calculus-Based Physics".

The goal of the Jam sessions are to help students complete their Associates Degree and/or transfer requirements for a 4-year college/university in less time than previously possible. Jam sessions are COMPLETLEY FREE, one-week intensive math, chemistry and/or physics preparation programs designed to:

  • Prepare students for their upcoming math, chemistry, or physics course
  • Prepare students to retake the math placement test targeting STEM majors who placed below pre-calculus or their highest high school math level
  • Increase student self-efficacy that will build confidence in their skills, abilities and progression towards a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) degree.
