Overview:

The COS Chemistry-Math Jam sessions offer the opportunity for College of the Sequoias students to improve their Placement Test results in Mathematics and/or prepare for a chemistry or math course that they will be taking. There are three Jam opportunities each year, all held during the intersession period that falls between semesters. Summer Jams are held in June and August and a Winter intersession Jam is in January. Math Jam sessions will focus on students going in Pre-Calculus and Calculus. The Chemistry Jam sessions will focus on preparing students that will be taking either Chem 20 (Intro to General Chemistry) or Chem 1 (General Chemistry).

Goal:

The goal of the Jam sessions are to help students complete their Associates Degree and/or transfer requirements for a 4-year college/university in less time than previously possible.

Jam sessions are a FREE one-week intensive chemistry and/or math preparation programs designed to:

  • Prepare students for their upcoming Math, Chemistry or Physics course
  • Prepare students to retake the Math Placement Test - especially students intending to major in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) fields who place into a college math course below pre-calculus
  • Increase a student's self-efficacy; building confidence in their skills, abilities and progression in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) majors

*Math Jam is provided by the COS Student Undergraduate Research Group Experience (SURGE) program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
