Message from the Dean
Dr. Jennifer Vega
La Serna
Welcome to the Fine Arts
Division at the College of the Sequoias! The Fine Arts Division
encompasses five outstanding departments: Music, Drama,
Communication, Art and Photography. The 12 fulltime faculty and 65
adjunct faculty come with a range of expertise on the national and
international level. Our faculty has presented at local and national
conferences and has led student voyages from
Nevada to
Greece
. Fine Arts graduates transition to
four-year colleges across the state and nation and are extremely
competitive students.
The Music
department provides training in vocal and instrumental areas and
hosts several programs throughout the year in our own
COS
theater and across the state. The Backstage Cabaret, Jazz Concert
and Holiday Chorus are among the audience favorites. The Drama department
presents over 3 full productions each year, including the spring
musical. In 2008, fans were delighted with Sweeney Todd followed by The Producers in 2009. The 396 seat theater
is under construction as we remodel the interior to provide
outstanding comfort for our patrons!
The
Art
Gallery
featured outstanding artists this year
in ceramics, photography, and mixed media. The Gallery also hosts an
annual student show. The
Art
Department
is extremely active
in national shows including Frogmans and the Southern Graphics
Council. The Department provides courses in 2D and 3D art, computer
graphics, photography, art history and art appreciation.
The Communication department offers a 12 unit communication
certificate that is recognized by local employers and an AA degree.
Courses are available in interpersonal communication, argumentation
and debate, organizational communication and public speaking for
business.
The Fine Arts
Division is actively involved in the
Visalia
community, providing venues
for theater, music and art. It is an exciting time to become
involved in the COS Fine Arts Division. Feel free to contact my
office to find out more about this outstanding division and our
upcoming events.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Vega La
