College of the Sequoias Communication
courses are designed to help students
improve their communication and success in
college, careers, and personal relationships.
Our department offers a variety of course in
public speaking, interpersonal communication,
argumentation & debate, persuasion,
group communication, intercultural communication,
and public speaking for business.
Earning our certificate or an
associate’s degree in Communication is an ideal way to prepare you to
enter the work force more confidently. Either of these programs will
also
be helpful when continuing your education at a
four year institution.
The ability to communicate effectively is consistently reported by
companies as the number one skill for career advancement. The U.S.
Department of Labor states that the most important qualities for
high job performance include listening, speaking, creative thinking,
decision making, problem solving, reasoning, self-esteem, sociability,
self management, integrity, and honesty. All of these skills can be
developed and refined during your pursuit of a communication
certificate. You will open up new career opportunities. Career fields related to
Communication related careers
include teaching, sales, human relations, customer service, social
services, management, public relations, advertising, media, fundraising,
law, politics, and publishing. The U.S. Department of labor claims that
at least 9 of these areas will be the “biggest generators of new jobs”
in the next 10 years.
Virtually every educational major and career goal will benefit from
an emphasis in communication. Whether you plan to be a nurse,
police officer, or own your own business, developing your
communication skill will enable you to be more productive at your
tasks.
The ability to work successfully
in multicultural groups, resolve differences, listen well, and express
yourself clearly not only help in a work setting, but may also be the
