Welcome to College of the Sequoias,

Dear COS Students, Faculty, Staff and Community:

It is my good fortune to serve as Superintendent/President for College of the Sequoias. Our institution has 85 years of tradition in outstanding service to our region. Our students excel in all areas of academic, artistic, athletic, and career-technical programs. We are committed to sustaining our newly opened Hanford Campus and are preparing for the grand opening our COS Tulare Center in January, 2013. These expansions were well underway several years ago and have the support of voter-approved general obligation bonds being paid by local taxpayers in return for our promise to deliver successful programs. The weight of the economic recession is having a cumulative impact on all of public education and in-particular our California Community College system. Now in the fifth consecutive year of state cuts in our general fund, we are working hard to make the best possible decisions to protect our district solvency. We apologize that this has caused us to suspend services, class offerings and summer school. We will continue to collaborate with all parties to implement whatever sacrifices necessary to assure the future of College of the Sequoias. We have weathered difficult times before and intend to not only survive but thrive! Beyond the immediate challenges of the fiscal downturn the future looks bright.  Our talented and caring faculty, administration and support staff are committed to providing excellent instruction, high quality programs and opportunities for students to fulfill their goals and dreams. For the COS staff, community college education is more than our job or even our profession, this is our calling! Thank you for being part of our team!

Most respectfully,

Stan A. Carrizosa
Superintendent/President
College of the Sequoias
