The COS Foundation

The COS Foundation was organized in the fall of 1985 to assist COS in the attainment of its educational, cultural and scientific goals. It raises funds for the college and also solicits donations of property and other assets. Contributions are used for scholarships, equipment and other critical needs. Donations can be given in a number of ways: cash, stock, real property, deferred gifts, memorials, matching gifts, scholarships and in-kind donations.

Gifts to the Foundation assist COS in providing quality education at an affordable cost, ensuring that College of the Sequoias will continue to graduate well trained, competent men and

women who will take their places in the business, industry and service occupations of the San Joaquin Valley.

Cash contributions qualify for an income tax charitable deduction up to 50% of a donor's adjusted gross income. By giving gift securities to COS, you can realize a tax deduction for the current market value, and thus not realize capital gains. Gifts may include those that can be used in the classroom setting or depreciated assets such as excess inventory, devalued real estate, obsolete equipment, accounts receivable or excess manufacturing capacity that can be liquidated. There are many types of planned gifts including, but not limited to, life income trusts, charitable remainder trusts and unitrusts. By gifting policies, the donor can claim an income tax deduction for either their replacement value or at cost -- whichever is lower.
